[10/07/2021] Start Dates, Ideologies, and more!

Almost a year since the ideas tool was released for the old site it's finally time for some new tools to be released.

Alongside these two new tools, there's also been some big quality of life improvements to the site, some directly relating to these new tools, some based on feedback over the past few months.


Small updates:

Memel is finally on the map. It seems somewhere along the way Memel managed to get removed from the state map. Rightful Lithuanian soil has been returned, and the map looks much better now because of it.

A few other provinces around the map have also been returned to their rightful owners, however, there may still be some which are not assigned to the correct state. If you find any rogue provinces, please do report it.

Minor style changes can be found across the site; adding space between buttons/images which were squished together, slightly changing the colour for textboxes which haven't been typed in yet, and more.

Medium updates:

Do you have a million pictures uploaded you no longer need, just clogging up the GFX selector? Head over to "Your account" page, where you can now delete those pictures of Stalin where his moustache isn't quite bushy enough. 

Or maybe you have the perfect level of moustache and want to use the same image for a new start date. You can also tell the site to re-crop any images which it doesn't have available.

Tired of your mod's name? Want to add a bit more information to the description? Now you can! It's only taken 6 months, but there is now an "Edit mod" button on your mod page. 

But what's that? There's two new checkboxes there for "ideology overhaul" and "start date overhaul". Checking either of these boxes will mean that when you export your mod, it will include the necessary files to disable the default start dates & ideologies from the base game.

I've pressed export by mistake, and an error report screen popped up, what's happening? Server Error 500 should be a very rare occurrence now, only showing when there is an actual server error, when exporting. What will happen instead is if there is an error in any part of your mod which is causing an issue, the site will ignore it and export the mod without it, then open up an error report screen with the information pre-filled out so all you need to do is hit "submit" and I can look into the issue further.

Large updates

Now for the two main features.

Start dates; whether it's WW1 or WW3, you can now make your own start dates for the game and select which nations should be shown after choosing your start date.

Ideologies; ever feel like communism has a bad rap? Want to have a fascist nation without the horrible brown colour in the ideology pie chart? You can add your own, or edit existing, ideologies to ensure that half the world isn't "Non-aligned". Set the names of the factions which the AI can make, what modifiers you get when playing as that ideology, and most importantly, what colour appears in the pie chart.


What's next?

Next in line is the Decision tool. Coming alongside this update will be more updates to the existing tools, some features include:

  • (maybe) More error messages - This will depend on how the new error reporting goes
  • Ability to set subjects (puppets) for nations in the country creator tool
  • Ability to set division level/experience in the country creator tool
  • Ability to assign national spirits to countries at the start of the game

Possibly more too, depending on what things people seem to want, along with how quickly the decisions tool takes.


When will these be ready?

I don't know yet, and giving an estimate now is impossible as I haven't started on these features yet. I would like to hope they are ready in a month's time, they may take longer, they make take less time.

I juste have a question about the Ideology tool : What numbers should I enter in the different modifiers ( Lend lease world tension limit, Wargoal World Tension Generated, etc...)? Is it 80 for 80%, 0.8, whatever ?

 Decimal places. So for 80% in game use 0.8 on the site

 You should be able to zoom using the browser's zoom: CTRL+Scroll (or use the +/- buttons in place of scrolling)

Using this will sometimes make the focuses jump,and the UI doesn't show up properly.
